BUYER CHECKS
How to check a Terra claim buyer and avoid phishing
Verify the legal purchaser independently, compare the agreement with the offer and check where sensitive records will go. Treat unexpected instructions as unverified until checked through a known channel. A private claim buyer is separate from the official Terraform claims administrator.
Before you go further
- A convincing sender name does not verify an email domain.
- Check who owes the payment in the signed agreement.
- An enquiry does not require a seed phrase or portal password.
A real Terra phishing notice
A Terraform notice filed on 9 April 2025 reported impersonation using an email address on ra-kroll.com. It distinguished that hyphenated domain from the genuine ra.kroll.com domain. The Delaware Bankruptcy Court published a related warning on 10 April 2025.
This is a dated example, not a permanent whitelist of email addresses. Start from the official portal and independently verify an unexpected message or a changed payment instruction. Do not use a link in a suspicious message to verify that same message.
| Domain in the 2025 notice | What the notice said |
|---|---|
| ra-kroll.com | Used in the reported impersonation attempt. |
| ra.kroll.com | Identified as the genuine Kroll domain in that notice. |
Verify the buyer behind the website
Ask for the legal purchaser’s name and the person authorised to sign. Check that the entity and signatory in the agreement match the explanation you received. If an intermediary is involved, identify its role and any fee separately.
A familiar logo, an anonymous testimonial or an attractive percentage cannot establish who is obligated to pay you. Terraloss is a prospective buyer with a commercial interest; apply the same checks to our proposed agreement.
Check the money and the transfer together
Read the exact payment amount, currency, conditions and timing alongside the rights you would transfer. Ask what happens if verification fails, a required step is delayed or closing does not complete.
If escrow is proposed, verify the provider and the release conditions independently. The word “escrow” alone does not explain who controls the funds or when you receive them. This guide does not state that Terraloss offers an escrow service.
- Who pays whom, and to which verified destination?
- What must happen before funds are released?
- When do the rights transfer under the agreement?
- Who bears costs if the sale does not complete?
Pause when the instructions do not add up
Treat demands for a portal password, private key or seed phrase as a reason to stop and verify. The initial Terraloss enquiry does not require them. Be equally careful with a request to send money to “unlock” an offer without a clear, verifiable contractual basis.
Keep the original message and follow reporting or contact instructions obtained through official channels. If funds or rights may already have been affected, obtain appropriate independent assistance.
Related questions
Can a buyer claim to be the official administrator?
A private purchase proposal is separate from claim administration. Verify any claimed official role through official sources rather than accepting a website badge or sender name.
Does a high offer prove that a buyer is legitimate?
No. Check the counterparty, written terms, payment conditions and information requests. Price alone does not establish authenticity or the ability to complete a purchase.
